Mark your calendars, UIW’s 25th annual Light the Way. Join us for an evening of musical entertainment and new surprises. Once again we’ll collect new, unwrapped toys for the Elf Louise Christmas Project. Look for the drop-off tents on the night of the event. Following the ceremony, join the candlelight procession through campus to the Brackenridge Villa for a reception from our friends at H-E-B. The event is free and open to the public. Take a drive through the campus; the lights remain on through January 6. Believe in the Magic!

Ford Holiday River Parade and Lighting Ceremony

For over 27 years, this spectacular one-hour parade along San Antonio's River Walk has featured illuminated floats with celebrities, bands and lavishly-costumed participants

At 7:00 p.m. on the Friday following Thanksgiving, the switch is thrown and approximately 1.4 million LED lights create a holiday wonderland on the San Antonio River Walk. The lights shine brightly every evening through January 1. The lighting ceremony is the official kickoff to the Paseo Del Rio Holiday Festivities. It's a Texas-size celebration that's Pure San Antonio!

For over 27 years, the spectacular one-hour parade along San Antonio's River Walk has featured illuminated floats with celebrities, bands and lavishly-costumed participants.

Over 150,000 people will gather along the River Walk to watch the spectacle live along the parade route. Millions more will join in the fun watching the television broadcast.

Restaurants Offering Thanksgiving Meals

Achiote River Cafe in the Grand Hyatt, 600 E. Market St., (210) 224-1234, offers a Thanksgiving buffet noon-9 p.m. that includes its signature salad bar, carved roast turkey with traditional sides, other entrees, soup, artisan bread station, assorted holiday desserts and coffee, tea or soda. $30 per person includes tax and gratuity. Alcohol not included. A la carte Achiote menu is not offered during the special holiday buffet.

Antlers Lodge, Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa, 9800 Hyatt Resort Drive, (210) 520-4080, has a three-course Antlers Thanksgiving family-style dinner from 3-9 p.m. The first course is soup and salad, the second includes smoked turkey and maple-glazed ham with six sides and brioche rolls, and the third course is an individual choice of dessert. Wines are available for an additional charge. Adults $49; seniors $40; and children ages 5-12, $20.

Boudro's on the Riverwalk, 421 E. Commerce St., (210)-224-8484, will be open 11 a.m.-11 p.m. Four-course traditional Thanksgiving special available, $35 per person. Children's turkey dinner, $15. Regular a la carte menu available.

Casbeers at The Church, 1150 S. Alamo St., (210) 271-7791, will be serving a home-style Thanksgiving buffet followed by a free screening of the classic film “Alice's Restaurant.” Adults: $15.95; children 11 and younger: $8.95. In keeping with the spirit of the film, there will be a potluck dessert buffet upstairs in the former sanctuary during the movie. Football will be on the two TVs in the cafe. Seating begins at noon; the film will be shown at 1:30 p.m. A second seating and screening will be added if needed.

Colonial Dining Room, Menger Hotel, 204 Alamo Plaza, (210) 225-6196, is serving a Thanksgiving buffet, 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m. The buffet includes appetizers and salads, a carving station, entrees, vegetables, desserts, coffee, tea, one glass of Champagne and parking (if space is available). Adults $38.50; seniors $36.50; children ages 6-11 $15.95. Reservations required.

Crumpets, 3920 Harry Wurzbach Road, (210) 821-5600. 11 a.m.-4 p.m. $28.50-$35.50 for adult entrées (includes appetizer, bread, house salad and dessert); $12 for children younger than 10 (includes turkey, ham, trimmings and choice of salad or dessert). No coupons, discounts, barter or trade accepted. Eighteen percent gratuity added to parties of five or more.

Earl Abel's, 1201 Austin Hwy., (210) 822-3358. Thanksgiving feast, 11 a.m.-8 p.m. includes turkey and cornbread dressing, appetizers, sides and desserts. All entrees include choice of appetizer, vegetable, potato or cornbread dressing, dinner rolls and dessert. Now offering pumpkin and ginger cake, sweet potato pecan pie and Earl's favorite strawberry shortcake. Open 6:30 a.m., serving breakfast until noon. It will close at 11 p.m. Special Thanksgiving menu along with several popular regular menu items. Children's menu for ages 10 and under. Reservations not accepted.

Frederick's, 7701 Broadway, (210) 828-9050 and 14439 NW Military Hwy., Suite 100, (210) 888-1500. Open for lunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m.; dinner 5-9:30 p.m. Special menu available for lunch includes soups, appetizers, salads and entrees (price range for entrees $19-31). Frederick's traditional Thanksgiving turkey with trimmings, $19. Child's menu $12-$13. Special menu available for dinner includes soups, appetizers, salads and entrees (price range for entrees $24-$35). Frederick's traditional Thanksgiving turkey with trimmings, $24. Child's menu $14.

Hyatt Hill Country Resort and Spa, 9800 Hyatt Resort Drive, (210) 520-4080, is offering a Feast of Flavors Thanksgiving brunch, 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., that includes a soup station; salad bar; seafood; cheese kiosk and artisan breads; the butcher block; cranberry bar; pasta; specialties; breakfast (includes waffles, pancakes, omelet bar and more); pastry; children's buffet traditional favorites; and healthy options. Adults $45; seniors $35, children ages 5-12, $23.

Jim's Restaurants, various locations, will be serving its traditional turkey dinner all day on Thanksgiving. It includes turkey, homemade cornbread dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, apple cranberry relish and green beans, $7.99.

La Madeleine Country French Cafés, 11745 W. I-10; 18030 U.S. 281 N.; 722 NW Loop 410; and 4820 Broadway, are offering several holiday specials now through Dec. 27, including turkey risotto, $9.49; turkey cranberry melt, $7.99; turkey sampler, $9.99; and ham sampler, $9.99. La Madeleine will close at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.

Las Canarias, Omni La Mansion Del Rio, 112 College St., (210) 518-1063, will offer a Thanksgiving buffet, available 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The buffet includes breakfast items, salads, starters and sides, carved-to-order and pastry items. $65 per person, $30 for children ages 5-12. Las Canarias' regular à la carte dining, with added holiday features, will resume at 5:30 p.m.

Las Ramblas, Hotel Contessa, 306 W. Market St., (210) 298-8040, is offering a Thanksgiving brunch 10:30 a.m.-4 p.m. with two carving stations; Valencian paella station; main buffet; waffle and omelet stations; chilled seafood display; pastries; and children's buffet. Adults $33.95, children ages 7-16, $14.95. Sangria and mimosas, $9.

Limestone Grille at Ye Kendall Inn, 128 W. Blanco in Boerne, (830) 249-2138, will be serving a four-course Thanksgiving dinner 11 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Start with focaccia and Limestone Cheese Spread, then a choice of soup or salad, choice of entrée accompanied by autumn vegetables, stuffing and mashed potatoes and Limestone Pumpkin Maple Pecan Pie. Adults $25.95; seniors (55-plus) $23.95; and children 10 and younger $12.95.

Luce Ristorante e Enoteca, 11255 Huebner Road, Suite 200, (210) 561-9700, is serving a Thanksgiving special noon-5 p.m. It includes a choice of soup or salad, turkey, pine nut stuffing, sweet potato, giblet gravy, fall vegetables, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie. Start with soup or salad, then turkey or ham with all of the classic holiday sides, and finish with a slice of fresh baked pie. Adult $19.99, and children, $7.99.

Mimi's Café, 17315 I-10 W., (210) 877-5792, will serve a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings. Start with a choice of soup or salad. The main course is turkey breast or dark meat with cornbread stuffing, whipped sweet potatoes, homemade mashed potatoes, fresh steamed vegetables, cranberry relish and a seasonal bread basket. Top off the meal with choice of dessert. The inclusive Thanksgiving Day menu is $14.99; $6.99 for children younger than 12. Open 8 a.m.-7 p.m. Thanksgiving Day.

Q, in the Hyatt Regency San Antonio, 123 Losoya St., (210) 222-1234, ext. 4240, is featuring a Thanksgiving Day buffet 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and 5-9 p.m. Antipasti display; variety of meats including Angus strip sirloin, jumbo prawns and smoked turkey; traditional sides; bread basket; Thanksgiving pies and mini-pastry buffet; coffee and cookies; and, beverage bar included (choice of a house-made bloody mary, spiked apple cider or champagne). Adults $40; seniors $36; and children ages 5-12, $20. Complimentary self-parking in Central Parking garage across from the hotel.

The Terrace Grill at Riven Rock Ranch, 390 Hermann Sons Road in Comfort, (830) 995-4045, is offering a modified buffet, with a station for starters and salads. Served plates with choice of two carved meats, five sides and freshly baked yeast rolls. Finish your meal at the dessert station.
